The children we serve live in San Juan County. If you live outside of San Juan County and would like to be a "Big" you can check the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America locator for the Big Brothers Big Sisters agency that is closest to you.
Please note that this information is kept confidential (and secure).
- We're glad you've come to our website to learn about how you can be a Big Brother or Big Sister.
- Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is a lot of fun for both the child and also for you. In fact, our volunteers tell us they get as much out of it as the kids!
- Here's a little about our different programs so you can find one that fits what you are looking for:
- In our community program, you get to share activities with a child that you both enjoy! That might include fishing, playing board games, baking cookies, or going to ball games. You get to enjoy these fun times two or three times a month with your Little Brother or Little Sister, on your own schedule.
- In our School Based Program, you visit your Little Brother or Little sister each week at their school. In this program you would meet with your "Little" for one hour, once a week during the school year. During your weekly visits, you would be able to eat lunch with them, play games with them, help them with schoolwork, or just hang out and talk.
- We'd like to get you started ... and we can start the process right now. Just click on the "Apply Online" link in the left navigation. We'll ask you to provide some basic contact and other data about yourself, employment, and some references. Just follow the instructions and we'll call you within one working day to schedule you for an appointment.
It's easy to become a volunteer. Follow these simple steps and you're on your way to Little Moments and Big Magic.
- Complete and submit the online application. Once the application is received, BBBS staff will contact you to confirm receipt or the application and schedule your confidential interview at our office.
- You will need to submit three (3) references: one from work or school, and two ther friends/co-workers that have known your for a year or more. No relatives, please.
- You will need to bring a copy of your Driver's License and Insurance Card to the interview and complete the Release of Information forms. This will allow us to conduct background checks.
- After your interview, references, and background checks have been completed, your application will be reviewed and pending acceptance, you will be eligible to be matched with a "Little."
- Once all the above steps are completed and approved, one of our staff will contact you to schedule a match introduction meeting with your Little Brother or Little Sister.
